COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Europe’s oldest monarch, King Harald V of Norway, is getting a permanent pacemaker on Tuesday, the palace said, adding that the monarch will followingly remain in hospital for a few days. In a brief statement, the royal household said the 87-year-old would get it at Oslo's university hospital, Rikshospitalet. Last month, Harald fell ill during a private holiday with his wife Queen Sonja on the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi. Harald returned to Norway aboard a medical airplane and was immediately transferred to an Oslo hospital. He ascended to the throne following the death of his father, King Olav, in 1991.

His transport will be facilitated by The Norwegian Government, while the Norwegian Armed Forces are responsible for the practical arrangements for his return to Norway, the royal household noted. The king, who was on holiday, fell ill with an infection earlier in the week. He has been king of Norway since 1991, and is Europe’s oldest monarch. His next official engagement, where he is due to preside over the Council of State at the Royal Palace, is scheduled to take place on March 8, according to the royal household’s website.

Germany so far has supplied two IRIS-T units to Ukraine, where they are mainly used to guard Kyiv against Russian missile attacks. Buschek said Ukraine had shot down more than 110 targets, most of these cruise missiles such as the Kalibr, with a hit rate of almost 100%. The system successfully countered an attack on Kyiv by a swarm of 13 Russian cruise missiles at the start of the year, intercepting all missiles, Buschek said. CNN —Ukraine’s quest for US-made F-16 fighter jets received a big boost over the weekend when US President Joe Biden gave his backing for Kyiv’s pilots to be trained to fly them. OSLO, May 8 (Reuters) - Norway's King Harald has been hospitalised to receive treatment for an infection, the royal household said in a statement on Monday. The 86-year-old monarch was in a stable condition and will remain in hospital for a few days, it added. The king had been due to attend a ceremony in Oslo on Monday commemorating the end of World War Two. King Harald has been Norway's ceremonial head of state since 1991.
